Cattle Ranches
Because a big part of Brazil's economy is cattle ranches, it is mostly viewed as more important then forests, (except by enviromentalists) so a lot of the forest has been cleared to make room for cattle ranches. Almost 91% of the rainforest cleared since 1971 was for cattle ranches. That doesn't seem very impressive, since it is a big part of their economy but consider that wood is used for paper, fires, houses, furniture, some types of shoes and fencing. There are many more things besides. So that's a lot of forest cleared for cattle ranches.
Many cattle also graze (illegally) on rainforest land to save money.
To solve this problem, government has actually started taking the cattle away from farms when people don’t expect it, which seems like an extreme solution.
(See more about the actual climate on the next page.)
Climate
The climate affects their farming greatly. Farming is extremely important to Brazil and so are their cattle ranches.
They are the largest producers in the world of things like
Sugar Cane
Cashew nuts
Beef
This wide range of crops (also mentioned above) is because of the tropical climate, so they grow many fruits and vegetables. As said on “Plants and Animals,” they also have different crops grown in different areas because of the biodiversity. They have swamps, rainforests, and plains. They grow more exotic plants such as
jute
cassava
and soybean
