Natural Resources
Mining, which was a big source of income for Honduras, brought in gold, silver, zinc, lead and cadmium. These minerals were mined and exported to the United States and Europe. Honduras and New York formed a collaboration which produced almost 60 million worth of minerals. However, after 1954, most operations were capped.
The natural resources include timber, gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, iron ore, antimony, coal and fish.
Honduras used to not be doing so well. Coffee is their main export, with 15,000 coffee farmers in the country, which is actually a lot, when you consider Honduras is actually only about the size of Tennesse. But since 1997, the cost for coffee has halved, and all those farmers are not doing so well. 70% of the population lives in poverty.
There are still some mines, and since the price of gold has increased, it is possible to make profits from "low quality ore" but still difficult, because the process used to extracate the ore is quite expensive.
To end this subject on a pretty sad note; Honduras is not doing well at all.
* Honduras actually has a really good economy because the other 30% of the population is extremely rich. There literally is no middle class. The poor livev in horrible conditions, and the rich live an extremely wealthy life.
